Online Counselling

Our experience (and this is borne out by research) is that online or phone counselling is just as effective as face to face counselling in building up a relationship with a counsellor and helping clients. It’s simply a matter of personal preference – it’s whatever suits you best. Some things are different of course. Often people find themselves able to talk more freely about things when they are not in the same room as their counsellor and may divulge more, and more quickly than they would otherwise. This is known as the disinhibition effect and is something your counsellor will be able to help you be aware of and manage so you fell comfortable with the pace of your counselling. All our therapists are trained in working as online therapists and are experienced in working with clients both online and on the phone.

For online or phone counselling you will need to have access to a fully charged phone or a tablet or computer with reliable internet provision in a setting where you can ensure you will not be overheard and where you will not be interrupted. Headphones can help you keep things private.

If we lose contact with you because of technology problems during our session, we will either phone or email you to reconnect.
